HCPro acquires Brownstone's healthcare management publications.


HCPro, Inc. (Marblehead, MA), a provider of information, education, training and consulting products and services for the healthcare regulation and compliance markets, has acquired 15 healthcare publications from Brownstone brownstone, red to brown variety of sandstone. The acquired newsletters include: HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act of 1996, Public Law 104-191) Also known as the "Kennedy-Kassebaum Act," this U.S. law protects employees' health insurance coverage when they change or lose their jobs (Title I) and provides standards for patient health,  Security & Privacy Staff Trainer, Health Information Compliance Insider, HIPAA Security Compliance Insider, Laboratory Compliance Insider, Managed Care Contracting & Reimbursement Insider, Ophthalmology ophthalmology (ŏf'thălmŏl`əjē), branch of medicine specializing in the anatomy, function and diseases of the eye. In addition to further penetration into existing markets, HCPro said the deal opens three new markets, including laboratory, radiology and managed care compliance. The Brownstone deal is HCPro's largest since the management-led buyout of the company's founders that occurred in December 2002. In that deal, The Riverside Company The Riverside Company is the largest private equity firm investing in premier companies at the smaller end of the middle market (valued between $5 million and $125 million).  (New York) assumed a majority interest in HCPro.

The purchase of the Brownstone titles is HCPro's fourth deal this year. The three earlier deals include the acquisition of Residency Program Director's Alert newsletter from PubWorld (Naples, FL), ePharmaceuticals from Medical Broadcasting (Phil., PA) and e-Quipping (Springfield, MO) from company management.
