The makers of Fox's ``American Idol American Idol is an annual American televised singing competition, which began its first season on June 11, 2002. There are some ground rules: Contestants must be age 16-24 on Oct. 19, 2002, and have documentation of it, they must sing one a capella song from a list determined by the producers, and they must be legal U.S. residents. And anyone who already has a recording contract or a talent agent, or made it as far as the 30 finalists in the first ``American Idol'' competition will have to muddle through without this valuable promotional platform.
