HATTON'S BIG FIGHT IN VEGAS.
RICKY HATTON is set to take on Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas on May 2, according to the Filipino boxer's promoter Bob Arum.
The Manchester boxer's team had hoped to stage the big fight at a UK venue, but the light-welterweight bout will take place at an American casino complex in front of a considerably smaller live audience.
The news will disappoint thousands of Hatton fans who will not be able to afford the cross-Atlantic trip and after it was proposed to stage the fight at Wembley in front of 90,000 spectators.
The clash is now likely to happen in Las Vegas, either at the Thomas and Mack Center in front of 19,000 fans, or the MGM Grand Garden Arena, which has a capacity of 15,000.
Hatton and former five-weight world champion Pacquiao, both 30, can expect to earn at least pounds 20million each from the clash to decide who is the best boxer in the world.
Pacquiao is considered the pound-for-pound best boxer in the world after his victory over American Oscar De La Hoya last month.
American Arum has been in talks with De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions company, which promotes Hatton.
Arum said: "As far as I'm concerned it's done. I have been talking with Golden Boy Promotions about this fight."
