This time around, he held on to his lead at Texas and won his first Busch race of the season.

``This place owed us one from last year, when we had the dominant car,'' said Harvick, who holds a 115-point lead in the Busch championship standings. ``To have the dominant car again and win is just awesome.''

``Jeff Burton is a great race car driver and he and Mark Martin have proven that they can dominate races both in the Cup series and especially Busch,'' Harvick said. ``We had a great car today and we were lucky to hold him off. (Crew chief) Todd (Berrier) and the guys made a good adjustment after the first round of stops that freed the car up just enough to enable me to drive it to the front and keep it there.''

Harvick coupled his win at Texas with a seventh in the Harrah's 500 Winston Cup race on Sunday. Harvick, who drives the No. 29 GM Goodwrench Chevy Monte Carlo, leads the Cup rookie points standings. The Busch series takes this weekend off and resumes racing April 14 at Nashville Superspeedway.

--Busch lands sponsor: Kurt Busch, driver of the No. 97 Roush Racing Ford Taurus, added to his best NASCAR Winston Cup finish by landing a primary sponsor Sunday at Texas Motor Speedway.

Busch, a former NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Series champ from Las Vegas, finished fourth in the Harrah's 500 on Sunday, the first top-five Winston Cup finish of the rookie's career.

Before the race, Roush Racing announced that Sharpie Rubbermaid will sponsor the No. 97 Ford. The new car will be unveiled this weekend at Martinsville Speedway in Virginia.

``That was too much fun,'' Busch said about his finish in the Harrah's 500. ``Early on I had a little spin in the grass and after that I knew that we needed to just keep digging. Once we got through that, I knew we were going to be all right. Ben Leslie, the new crew chief, did an awesome job. He acclimated well with the new car and could feel the changes I needed throughout the race.''

--Long Beach anticipation: It's safe to say after nearly a month off, the drivers of the CART FedEx Series are itching to get back to racing. And many of them couldn't ask for a better race than the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.

Adrian Fernandez of Mexico has many fond memories of Long Beach, although he would like to forget last year's race, one of only three he did not finish in the 2000 season. After a pair of fourth-place finishes in 1998 and 1999, Fernandez completed only 10 laps before experiencing engine failure and hitting the wall on Shoreline Drive.

``I am really looking forward to Long Beach,'' said Fernandez, the only owner/driver on the series, who drives the No. 51 Tecate/Quaker State/Telmex Honda Reynard. ``I have had some good results there the past few years and I think we have a good setup going in to the weekend. We will be in better shape than we were in Mexico and I will have more time to prepare for the race.''

Long Beach has a special place in Tony Kanaan's heart - or perhaps it's more accurate to say his arm. Kanaan, driver of the No. 55 Hollywood/Mo Nunn Racing Honda Reynard, won the pole position at Long Beach in 1999. Along with leading the qualifiers to start the race, Kanaan also won 18 wristwatches from his crew in a bet he made before the race. The Brazilian driver told his Forsythe Championship Racing Forsythe Championship Racing is a racing team in the Champ Car World Series owned by Gerald Forsythe. Team History

Aside from adding to his wristwatch collection, Kanaan led for 44 laps during the 1999 Long Beach Grand Prix

in lap 54 to end his day at Long Beach last year. His best finish at Long Beach came in his rookie season in 1998, when he finished fifth.

``Long Beach is definitely my type of race track,'' Kanaan said. ``If you look at my record there, it should be a surprise to no one that I really like the place. This year, I definitely have some unfinished business to take care of. The corner I crashed in while leading in 1999 isn't there any more, so the track is much easier. I'm really excited.''
