HARTE SEEKS POSITION ON PARKS PANEL.

SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  -- Former city Parks and Recreation Commissioner Duane Harte has applied for a post on the panel to replace a member who resigned.

Harte is one of three nominees for the commission, joined by Gerald Dry and Anthony G. Gragas.

The Santa Clarita City Council is scheduled to review the candidates and Councilman TimBen Boydston will nominate nom·i·nate

The new member's term expires July 31, 2008.

Harte served on the commission in the 1999-2002 period and is a current member of the Newhall Redevelopment Committee. A 32-year resident, Harte said in his nomination form that his experience on the commission would be an asset because the term is just one year and he would need no learning curve.

"Duane has demonstrated a high level of leadership and commitment while chairing committees and participating in community activities. He works hard, sets goals and follows through," Bruce Fortine wrote in a letter of recommendation.

Gragas, a Hart High School Hart High School may refer to:

"I have found Gerry to be a thoughtful, articulate team player, putting the group's needs ahead of his own and he is willing to do whatever needs to be done," association President Steve Terwilliger said in recommending Dry.

The new commissioner will replace Karin Nelson, who resigned in June for health reasons and moved out of town, Dawson said. Boydston will make the nomination -- subject to council approval -- because Nelson was former Councilman Cameron Smyth's appointee APPOINTEE. A person who is appointed or selected for a particular purpose; as the appointee under a power, is the person who is to receive the benefit of the trust or power.  to the five-member commission and Boydston filled his seat when Smyth was elected in November to the state Assembly.
