HARTE, PEDERSEN RECEIVE HONORS FOR VOLUNTEERISM.

VALENCIA - Their commitment to the Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. ``I'm still a little bit overwhelmed,'' Pedersen said Saturday from her home in Newhall. ``It was a surprise. People who know me know I'm never at a loss for words, but I didn't know what to say.''

 Chamber of Commerce, addressed a room of familiar faces.

``I'm proud to say I know damn near every one of you in the room,'' Harte said. ``This means more to me than anything else, to have this many friends and be able to serve you. It is my pleasure.''

Pedersen, who moved to Newhall with her husband, Tom, in 1966, was one of the first women to serve on the board of the SCV Boys & Girls Club. With a resume that includes serving on the College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation.  Foundation and the SCV Rotary, it's little wonder her husband labeled her ``the full-time volunteer.''

Harte served on the SCV Parks and Recreation Commission from 1999 to 2002 and has served on the boards of Friends of the Libraries of the Santa Clarita Valley, Friends of Mentryville and the SCV Historical Society.

Both 5th District Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich Michael Dennis Antonovich (born 1939 in Los Angeles, California) is a member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors representing the Fifth District, which covers northern Los Angeles County, the Antelope, Santa Clarita, Pasadena, and parts of the San Fernando and San  and Santa Clarita Mayor Pro-tem Bob Kellar presented Pedersen and Harte with certificates.

The two were given $500 each to donate to organizations they choose. Harte said he would divide his gift between the SCV Committee on Aging and the Elks Purple Lodge. Pedersen said she would donate her gift to the SCV Boys and Girls boys and girls
