The new calendar, which is similar to that adopted by a number of districts throughout the state, is more closely aligned to instructional needs than previous schedules. The second semester is longer than the first to allow for spring testing schedules, and the three-week winter break avoids an end-of-school scenario where finals week would otherwise be interrupted by the long Memorial Day holiday.

``This new schedule was first proposed by the Hart District Teachers Association, and instructionally it seems to make a lot of sense,'' said Michael von Buelow, assistant superintendent Assistant Superintendent, or Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), was a rank used by police forces in the British Empire. To assist families in planning family vacations, the Hart district has released the 2002-03 school calendar.

Aug. 19 - Classes begin
