HART SCHOOL BOARD OKS APPOINTMENT OF NEW PRINCIPALS DISTRICT NAMES LEADERS OF CAMPUSES SCHEDULED TO BEGIN OPERATION IN 2004.

SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  - The Hart district board has approved the appointment of three principals, two of whom will lead new campuses scheduled to open in 2004.

 Junior High Principal Jacque Snyder to head Golden Valley High School, which is set to open next fall on the valley's eastern edge.

Academy of the Canyons and Learning Post Principal David Le Barron will head Rancho Pico Junior High. The campus, at the end of Valencia Boulevard west of the Golden State Freeway The Golden State Freeway is a north-south freeway running through Kern County and Los Angeles County, California. Originally built as U.S. Highway 99, it was re-signed as Interstate 5 in 1964. , is also scheduled to open next year.

Filling the principal vacancy at Arroyo Seco is Rhondi Mitchell, an assistant principal at La Mesa La Mesa (lə mā`sə), city (1990 pop. 52,931), San Diego co., S Calif., a suburb of San Diego; inc. 1912. It is a retail center and a popular residence for upper- and middle-income professionals in the San Diego area.  Junior High since 1996.

Snyder first joined the Hart district in 1974 as a campus supervisor and teacher at Canyon High. She moved into administration as dean of students, serving at both Canyon and Saugus high schools.

Before her appointment to Golden Valley, Snyder guided Arroyo Seco for almost a decade, during which it was named a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence in 1991.

``I am very excited to bring what I have learned through my Seco experience ... to the students at high school as they strive to meet the rigors of the academic requirements,'' Snyder said in a statement Thursday.

, Le Barron was promoted to assistant principal at the campus after receiving his administrative credential from California State University, Northridge CSUN offers a variety of programs leading to bachelor's degrees in 61 fields and master's degrees in 42 fields. The university has over 150,000 alumni. It's also home to a summer musical theater/theater program known as TADW (TeenAge Drama Workshop) that leads teenagers through an .

As principal of the Academy of the Canyons and Learning Post since they opened in 2000, Le Barron was involved in building the initial staff and student body at both schools.

``I am looking forward to starting from scratch and building a new school,'' he said in a statement. ``We will have the the opportunity to do things from the ground floor.''

A Valencia resident for more than 20 years, Mitchell was a teacher and administrator in the Los Angeles Unified School District The Los Angeles Unified School District (the "LAUSD") is the largest (in terms of number of students) public school system in California and the second-largest in the United States. Only the New York City Department of Education has a larger student population.  before joining the Hart district in 1996.

``I look forward to getting to know the staff, students and parents of Arroyo Seco and helping to nurture and sustain the culture and instructional program,'' she said in a statement. ``I'm a firm believer in shared leadership and decision-making and am anxious to make connections with a new community.''
