HART HIGH ALUM BOLLER RETURNS FOR QB CAMP.

NFL quarterback Kyle Boller returns to his high school alma mater, Hart High, June 28-29 to participate in the final two sessions of a three-day football camp organized by College of the Canyons offensive coordinator Dean Herrington, who was Hart's coordinator during Boller's legendary prep seasons in the late 1990s.

``Kyle came last year, too, and we got great feedback from everyone,'' Herrington said. ``Kyle hasn't changed a bit. He's still got a great attitude, and he enjoys coming out during the summer and working with the kids. I really don't look at it like I'm friends with an NFL quarterback. He's just one of my former players who I've remained close to, and now he happens to play in the NFL.''

Herrington's camp, open to boys and girls 8-18, focuses on quarterbacks, receivers and running backs. In addition to Boller, other former Hart quarterbacks might participate if their schedule permits.

Herrington, an avid golfer, said he's played golf with Boller three times recently.

``We're pretty close in golf. I beat Kyle once, he beat me once - and we tied once,'' Herrington said.

--The 19th annual Daily News All-Star Softball Game is Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Cal State Northridge, and the surprise star of the East team so far has been small-schools standout Shayne Lotito from Vasquez High in Acton.

``Man, that kid is All-American stuff. She is just a stud,'' said Hart coach Cathy Giordano, who's co-coaching the East with Glendale's Kris Kohlmeier. ``She can play outfield, she can play shortstop, she can bunt, she can slap. She can do it all. She's going to do great in college.''

Lotito, who briefly transferred to Valencia before softball season but returned to Vasquez because of eligibility issues, has signed with Boston University.

Giordano, who has never coached in all-star game at the prep level, is having a great time.

``It's fun coaching an all-star team. All of the girls look good,'' she said.

Giordano said Valencia's Courtney Baughman, who was named Foothill League MVP, is the ``odds-on favorite'' to be the starting pitcher Tuesday. The team practices again on Monday. Giordano's daughter, Nicole, plans to help out but must leave early because she's being inducted into the Saugus Hall of Fame that evening.

--Teddy Goetz, who helped Valencia's boys' volleyball team to its third consecutive appearance in the Southern Section Div. II final, has been named Foothill League MVP.

Goetz is among three first-team honorees who also excelled in basketball. The others are Saugus' Sam Hein and Hart's Alex Strickland.

--Curtis Dunwoody has signed with NAIA school Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Mont., following two solid seasons at College of the Canyons.

Dunwoody, who played high school basketball at Valencia, earned All- Western State Conference honors at Canyons this past season after averaging 14.4 points and 2.7 assists.
