HART GETS ON PAR : SOPHOMORES HELP INDIANS BEAT WESTLAKE TO AVENGE ONLY DEFEAT.

Byline: Vincent Bonsignore Special to the Daily News

golf coach Dennis Ford is concerned, the only thing better then beating Westlake Monday was watching two youngsters lead the charge.

That's exactly what happened at Camarillo Springs Golf Course as the Indians rode the clutch play of sophomores Charlie Smith and Brandon Wallace Brandon Wallace (born March 14 1985 in Statesboro, Georgia) is an American professional basketball player for the Boston Celtics of the NBA. High School

Smith and Wallace both shot 4-over-par 76 in helping Hart avenge a·venge

Ford, who considers the win over Westlake (23-1) a healthy progress report as the Indians (14-1) get set for the Southern Section Regionals, was particularly impressed im·press 1

``The exciting time of year is coming up,'' Ford said. ``So it's real nice that they got a chance today to get used to the extra pressure. That's the type of stuff they'll have to control when we play important matches down the road.''

Wallace got a taste of the pressure Ford referred to on the 18th hole Monday. With teammates and opponents alike watching as he approached the green, he knew a birdie or par would all but seal the win. Although he didn't get the birdie, he did calmly sink a six-foot par putt to put the Indians over the top.

``I was a little nervous,'' said Wallace, who shot a 1-under par on the front nine and a 5-over par the rest of the way. ``It was just nice to beat a team like Westlake. We knew if we clutched up as a team we could do it. This definitely gives us some confidence the rest of the way.''

Smith said the Indians had been looking forward to playing Westlake ever since the loss earlier in the season.

``We always know we'll get pushed when we play them because they're such a good team,'' he said.

The first-place individual finisher was Notre Dame Notre Dame IPA: [nɔtʁ dam] is French for Our Lady, referring to the Virgin Mary. Coghlan went without a birdie, but his drives to the green were consistent all day long. Westlake freshman J.T. Kohut had the day's second-best score of 76.

Two players who struggled were Hart's Jason Semelsberger and Westlake's Ross Fulgentis, who shot 77 and 78, respectively. The two seniors are great friends and will both play at UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles

 next year.

Although Semelsberger concedes he thinks often of next year when he and Fulgentis will be teammates, he still feels there's some unfinished business left this season.

``I really think we have a special group of players on this team and I want to go as far as possible,'' he said. ``That's my main concern.''

Westlake coach Dave Costley, meanwhile, was somewhat relieved that the Warriors won't go into today's Marmonte League The Marmonte League is a high school sports league primarily made up of schools from Ventura County. ``I actually think in the long run this will help us,'' said Costley. ``The undefeated record was getting to be like a big monkey monkey, any of a large and varied group of mammals of the primate order.
