 District's soon-to-be released $88 million general obligation bond series an AA-minus grade.

Approved by voters in 2001 to build new schools and renovate existing ones, the second series of the bond is scheduled to sell beginning June 9. Fitch also affirmed the $66.3 million outstanding bond money. The rating outlook is stable.

The AA-minus rating reflects the William S. Hart Union High School District's strong taxable assessed valuation growth, healthy underlying economic base and good financial operations resulting in reserves above the state-required level, the rating service said in a statement released Wednesday.

The top rating possible is AAA AAA: see American Automobile Association.

The city of Santa Clarita and the district have experienced significant growth in recent years - the local population has increased about 9 percent since 2000 to about 165,000. The district's enrollment has increased, on average, by more than 8 percent per year since fiscal 2000, with enrollment for fiscal 2005 at more than 22,000.
