SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  -- Three new members have been named to a committee appointed to oversee voter-approved bonds for high school and junior-high construction projects that have overrun projected costs by millions of dollars.

As of March 26, 2006, it has 8 elementary schools. ; Joseph Messina, a consultant with The Wildcat Group, Inc.; and Thomas Troesch, a software engineer and consultant.

They were selected from a pool of applicants to fill unexpired terms on the 16-member committee created in the William S. Hart Union High School District.

The committee -- made up of business people, parents and representatives from various community groups -- is charged with overseeing the expenditure of funds from a $158 million bond measure passed by Hart district voters in 2001.

The money was to renovate older schools and build new ones to meet the needs of the fast-growing Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672.  population.

The goal of the group is to ensure the money is spent on projects that were explained in detail for voters on the ballot. Problems are surfacing now because of skyrocketing materials costs and mismanagement mis·man·age

Renovations at Saugus and Canyon high schools and Arroyo Seco Arroyo Seco (Spanish: "dry creek") may refer to:

 Junior High have gone over budget by some $43 million. At the same time, plans for long-awaited performing-arts centers at those two high schools have been shelved because money is running out.

The new committee members will be briefed on the construction projects and budgets. They take office this month.

Gibson is the mother of a Hart district student and is active in the Sulphur Springs Sulphur Springs, city (1990 pop. 14,062), seat of Hopkins co., NE Tex., in a farm area; inc. 1859. Vegetables, wheat, rice, and corn are grown, and livestock and dairying are important. There is clay and timber in the area.  district. She previously was principal at two different middle schools and has experience with school-construction issues.

Messina is active with the local Valley Industrial Association and the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce. He has served chamber's Education Foundation board. His children are Saugus High graduates.

Troesch is an 18-year valley resident and a parent.
