In a matchup involving perhaps the top two junior quarterbacks in the region, Matter completed 17 of 25 passes for 315 yards and St. Francis' John Sciarra John Michael Sciarra (born March 2, 1954 in Los Angeles, California), is a former professional American football safety in the NFL position for the Philadelphia Eagles from 1979-1987. He also played quarterback for the British Columbia Lions of the Canadian Football League.  was 28 of 41 for 328 yards.

``Nobody had high hopes for this team,'' said Hart fullback/linebacker Pat Norton, who had two 1-yard touchdown runs. ``Kyle Matter's a young quarterback. Not too many quarterbacks can pick up all this stuff, but the kid's playing good football.''

Great football, even. Not that Sciarra did not play well. The difference was that Hart had support from its running game, which produced 120 yards. Sophomore Tim Gregory ran 16 times for 96 yards, including a 25-yard touchdown run to push Hart ahead 7-0 with 10:13 left in the first quarter. St. Francis (11-2) was held to 25 rushing yards in the game.

The Indians dominated the first half, racking up 296 of their 435 yards as they took a 28-0 lead before Sciarra found Kenny Garcia for a 29-yard touchdown pass with :56 left until halftime.

Sciarra directed a powerful Golden Knights pass attack to 256 yards in the opening half, but the running game was limited to minus-26 yards before the break. St. Francis was also stopped on fourth down on two of its possessions in the opening half.

The Golden Knights went on a lengthy drive following the Norton score, but Jimmy Knauf (seven receptions for 37 yards and an interception on defense) fumbled a pitch from Sciarra near the Hart 40. Chris Ciccone scooped up the ball and went 59 yards to move the Indians ahead 28-0.

``We came out good in the first half, but we made some mental mistakes,'' Knauf said. ``I thought we sucked it up in the second half. Matthew Milton had 91 yards on 10 carries to lead St. Francis' running game.

In a season in which many individual and team records were broken, the Indians now have a chance to complete their first undefeated season with a victory in the finals.
