But like most of Hart's graduates from last season who have committed to Division I universities, Norton probably will redshirt because Fresno State has five quarterbacks on the roster.

However, one Hart recruit who might see significant playing time as a true freshman True freshman is a term used in NCAA sports, indicating that an athlete is playing the sport in his first year of college, rather than redshirting for one or more years to protect future college eligibility.  this season is Washington linebacker Dan Howell. Howell is working his way into the rotation as a reserve, and he also might play on special teams.

--The Santa Clarita United Crush girls' soccer team placed first at the recent Sun and Surf tournament in Long Beach, winning six games over three days despite having the minimum number of players available. The girls defeated host Long Beach 3-2 in overtime to win the title.

The team is coached and trained by Calvin Cross. The players are: Ariana Barrera, Stevie Berke, Kristina Dyroy, Alexis Elder, Taylor Rose Greasley, Angela Jewett, Michelle Malette, Montana Martinez, Ashley Kramer, Nikki Penn, Lindsey Powell, Annie Randall, Shelby Searcy, Becca Seguancia and Shannon Suarez.

--Valencia High conducts baseball tryouts Sept. 13-15 at 3:15 p.m. on the varsity field. Participants should bring cleats, a glove and a hat. There is a second tryout after football season to determine the final roster for the freshman team.
