HARSCO CORPORATION ANNOUNCES MAJOR MANAGEMENT REORGANIZATION OF HECKETT MULTISERV OPERATIONS

HARRISBURG, Pa., Oct. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Malcolm W. Gambill, chairman and chief executive officer of Harsco Corporation (NYSE: HSC), today announced that a major management reorganization of the company's Heckett MultiServ operations will be effective on Jan. 1, 1994.
This reorganization will integrate the management of MultiServ International, N.V., which the company acquired in August, with Harsco's Heckett Division.
The new organization will be divided into Eastern, Western and European regions, reflecting the company's worldwide penetration in steel-mill service contracting. Each region will have an operating head, who will be responsible for key management functions, including operations, finance, marketing, engineering and human resources and who will report to the president of Heckett MultiServ.
Effective Jan. 1, 1994, Adrian H.H. Bowden will become president of the Heckett MultiServ Division, reporting to Malcolm W. Gambill. Bowden was president and CEO of MultiServ International when Harsco acquired the business in August. He was also the founder of the predecessor company in 1966 and has been responsible for the effective performance and expansion of MultiServ.
Donald C. Pesci, who has served as president of the Heckett Division for the past six years, will continue in that capacity until year-end. Pesci's distinguished career with the Heckett Division has spanned 37 years, and he will continue to serve the company in an advisory capacity in addition to retaining his position as a Director of MultiServ and of other Heckett equity companies in India, Indonesia and South Africa.
Brian Dobson will become Managing Director-European Region on Nov. 1, 1993. Dobson, a British citizen, currently serves as senior vice president-International for the Heckett Division, and has been primarily responsible for the excellent performance of the Division's international operations for the past seven years. During his 32-year career with Heckett, he has acquired an intimate knowledge of European customers and steel industry market conditions.
The new managing director-Eastern Region, effective Nov. 1, 1993, will be Geoffrey D.H. Butler, the senior MultiServ operating executive, who has made a major contribution over the years to the growth and development of MultiServ International. Butler will head operations in such key developing markets as China, the Pacific Rim, Australia, the Middle East and South Africa.
Joining the organization is Benjamin W. Hancock, who will become president-Western Region on Jan. 1, 1994. Hancock previously spent 14 years with another major steel-mill service company. He will be responsible for operations in North and South America. Hancock possesses considerable expertise in doing business in South America, particularly in Brazil, and his leadership abilities will greatly assist the company in aggressively pursuing new contracts in the Western Hemisphere.
Gambill commented, "This new structure is designed to exploit the many opportunities we have identified for continued international growth while taking full advantage of the unique technologies and synergistic capabilities of both organizations. This reorganization will also enhance customer service and responsiveness while providing for the most efficient access to the best talents and resources within the combined businesses. I am confident that this move will play a crucial role in attaining world-class performance in the integrated Heckett MultiServ operations, which should produce steadily increasing earnings by 1995."
