 HARRON COMMUNICATIONS BECOMES 30TH MSO
TO AFFILIATE WITH DIGITAL MUSIC EXPRESS (DMX)
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Joining the list of cable operators to affiliate with the industry's leading digital audio programmer, DMX, Philadelphia-based Harron Communications Corp. has signed an exclusive, MSO-wide agreement to launch the premium audio service in the majority of its cable systems.
According to Greg Bicket, Harron's executive vice president and chief operating officer, the 43rd-ranked MSO will first launch DMX to 25,000 subscribers in Malvern, Pa., a Philadelphia suburb that provides service to the corporate headquarters. The launch is scheduled for this month.
Explaining his decision to ally with DMX, Bicket said, "DMX's parent company, International Cablecasting Technologies (ICT) (NASDAQ: TUNE), has top-flight management and the premium audio service features the variety, sound quality and value that we desire for our customers. An added plus is the silent DMX-DJ(TM) -- its a hands-down winner."
The affiliation will reunite DMX's residential division president Jerry Maglio and Harron's Bicket who worked together on new business opportunities with cable operators, United Artists Cable and Daniel & Associates for more than seven years.
Maglio said, "Harron has just introduced a new 'Growth Management' program to encourage all staff to participate in revenue building. Applying this practice to DMX should help build penetration quickly."
With more than 224,000 cable subscribers in seven states, MSO Harron Communications also owns broadcast TV station, WMTW-TV, in Portland, Maine, and one of the largest advertising sales operations in the country, Metrobase Cable Advertising. Privately owned by four family members, Harron entered the cable industry almost 30 years ago.
DMX, a service of International Cablecasting Technologies, provides 30 channels of CD-standard digital audio programming for residential, commercial and international markets. Equity participants in ICT include: Tele-Communications Inc. (TCI), Scientific-Atlanta, Viacom, KBLCOM, Scripps-Howard, Crown Media, Colony Communications and Shaw Cablesystems of Canada.
