HARRIS TO TRANSFER ORLANDO AEROSPACE OPERATION TO PALM BAY

MELBOURNE, Fla., Dec. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Harris Corporation (NYSE: HRS) plans to transfer its Government Aerospace Systems Division operation in Orlando to the division's headquarters in Palm Bay, Fla. to reduce operating costs and maintain the division's competitiveness in the aerospace market. The consolidation is expected to take place in February and March.
Most of the 250 employees at the company's Science Park, Orlando facility will be offered positions in Palm Bay. Employees not offered positions will receive severance packages, along with outplacement assistance.
"This is a necessary move in the face of declining spending by the U.S. Department of Defense," said Charles J. Herbert, vice president- general manager of the Government Aerospace Systems Division. "It will eliminate the duplicative costs of operating two facilities, avoid redundant efforts, and make it easier and more efficient for employee teams to work together on various projects."
Harris' Government Aerospace Systems Division specializes in custom aircraft and spaceborne communication and information-processing systems; and test, maintenance, logistic, and simulation systems.
Harris Corporation, with worldwide sales of more than $3 billion, is focused on four major businesses: electronic systems, communications, semiconductors, and Lanier Worldwide office equipment.
