HARRIS NAMES JOHN C. GARRETT TO HEAD ITS SEMICONDUCTOR BUSINESS

 MELBOURNE, Fla., April 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Harris Corporation (NYSE: HRS), the number one supplier of semiconductors to the U.S. government, has named John C. Garrett, a former executive with Square D and General Electric, as president of Harris Semiconductor.
 Garrett, 50, most recently was executive vice president, Industrial Businesses at the Square D Company, in Raleigh, N.C. He joined Square D in 1987 as vice president and general manager, Industrial Controls, and was named vice president and general manager, Industrial Controls and European operations in 1989. He was elected executive vice president, Industrial Businesses in 1991.
 Prior to joining Square D, Garrett was with General Electric Company for 20 years, where he held positions of increasing responsibility including three general manager assignments. He has led GE semiconductor operations in the United States and Europe.
 Garrett holds a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Connecticut in Storrs, Conn.
 He reports to Phillip W. Farmer, executive vice president of Harris Corporation, who is responsible for overseeing the company's Semiconductor and Electronic Systems sectors. Farmer also has been acting president of the Semiconductor Sector.

 Harris' Semiconductor Sector is the seventh largest merchant manufacturer of semiconductors in the United States and the number one supplier to the U.S. government. Sales in fiscal 1992 were more than $580 million, and the sector has some 9,000 employees worldwide.
 The sector specializes in discrete semiconductors and integrated circuits for analog and digital signal processing and power applications. Markets include automotive systems, communications, medical imaging, industrial equipment, computer peripherals, and military and aerospace applications.
