MELBOURNE, Fla., Aug. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Harris Corporation (NYSE: HRS) has been awarded a $43 million contract to provide avionics test systems to help maintain the United Kingdom Royal Navy's EH101 Merlin Helicopters.
Harris Government Aerospace Systems Division, Melbourne, Fla., was awarded the 5-year contract by Serco Limited to design, develop, and manufacture 14 automatic test systems for the anti-submarine warfare helicopters. Serco, a United Kingdom's company, is a subcontractor to IBM Aerospace Systems Integration Corporation on the project.
Work on the Harris project will be done at the company's Orlando facility.
The test sets, featuring a customized version of Harris' Adaptive Diagnostic Approach to Performance Testing (ADAPT), will enhance the Royal Navy's ability to maintain the modern anti-submarine warfare helicopters. The test sets will be ruggedized, easily transportable, and able to be rapidly reconfigured on land or onboard ships.
Similar ADAPT systems are currently in use by the Canadian Air Force's CF-18 aircraft and the Royal Australian Air Force's F-111 aircraft.
Harris Government Aerospace Systems Division is part of Harris Electronic Systems Sector, which conducts advanced research studies, develops prototypes, and produces a broad range of state-of-the-art systems for government agencies and commercial organizations in the U.S. and overseas.
Harris Corporation, with worldwide sales of more than $3 billion, is focused on four major businesses: electronic systems, communications, semiconductors, and Lanier Worldwide office equipment.
