HARRAH'S TUNICA MARDI GRAS CASINO OPENS

ROBINSONVILLE, Miss., April 8, 1996 -- Harrah's Entertainment (NYSE: HET) opened today a new 150,000 square-foot casino entertainment complex in Tunica County, Miss., approximately 25 miles south of Memphis. Harrah's Tunica Mardi Gras Casino is the company's second casino entertainment facility on Casino Strip in the burgeoning Tunica market.

Approximately 2,000 people were on hand today as Harrah's executives symbolically cut a giant string of Mardi Gras beads draped across the entrance prior to opening the facility at 10 a.m.

One section of the casino showcases a magnificently colorful Mardi Gras theme reminiscent of Mardi Gras parades in the French Quarter, while another area is a lush Garden District complete with large trees.

The entertainment complex features three unique dining experiences in The Fresh Market Square Buffet, The Steak House and The Bourbon Street Bistro. The Tunica market's first full-service childcare center, The Planet 4 Kidz, is a two-level, state-of-the-art facility which provides supervised care for children up to 12 years old. Other amenities at the complex include a teen arcade with laser tag, live entertainment, valet parking and a gift shop.

Gaming space totalling 50,000 square feet includes 1,153 slot machines; 56 table games consisting of blackjack, craps, roulette, poker and other games; and live action keno.

The company expects to complete an adjoining 200-room Harrah's hotel by mid-year. The hotel, currently under construction, will feature 180 deluxe rooms and 20 suites.

"In Harrah's Tunica Mardi Gras Casino we've created the most exciting entertainment experience yet in this market," said Philip G. Satre, president and chief executive officer of Harrah's. "Tunica is fast becoming a destination market and the addition of our hotel by this summer will allow our guests here to experience the complete Harrah's hospitality package."

Harrah's continues to operate its original Tunica casino also located on Casino Strip. The company hired more than 900 additional employees to operate its Mardi Gras casino. Harrah's original casino employs approximately 800 workers.

Harrah's, the premier name in the casino entertainment industry, is the largest and most geographically diversified casino company in North America.
