Harper, once he was able to shake free of Sylmar's defense in the second half, finished with a game-high 31 points and Vlade Sandoval finished with 22.

Maybe the Hunters learned that it will take a lot more than the one-two punch one-two punch

With the unsung Sandoval leading the way, Canoga Park responded with a nice blend of perimeter shooting and fastbreaks to loosen the hold on Harper.

from behind his right ear, nailed five 3-pointers. He was able to spark several Canoga Park (11-8, 3-1) scoring runs while also helping to take the steam out of the Sylmar (8-9, 2-2) offense.

He freed Harper from the double-teams. And Harper made Sylmar pay, pouring in 24 of his points in the second half.

``It's a very big victory,'' Harper said. ``We have to learn to play without (Redmond). We have shooters on the team, but coach Turner has to let them shoot. The 3-pointers helped a lot. We had to show them we could shoot.''

Sylmar capitalized on Redmond's absence early in the game. The Spartans won countless battles for offensive rebounds and converted the grabs into baskets. Most of the work was done by the trio of Daron Wilson (22 points), Jeremiah Turner (21) and guard Branden Jacobs (19); the latter two also contributing outside shots.

Then Canoga Park, which also received 19 points from Jeff Turner Jeffrey Steven Turner (born April 9 1962 in Bangor, Maine) is an American former professional basketball player. ``We knew all along that we're not a two-man team,'' Canoga Park coach Ralph Turner said. ``(Sylmar) had a good strategy at first by double-teaming Carloes. (Then) the other kids hit some open shots.''
