Harper and Roseann Mikos have been appointed to an ad hoc committee ad hoc committee A committee formed with the purpose of addressing a specific issue or issues, which theoretically is disbanded once its raison d'etre is finished  to preserve the Theater on High Street, which is currently up for sale.

Owner Larry Janss borrowed $750,000 from the Redevelopment Agency to buy the historic theater. He now is asking the agency to forgive the loan and for the city to buy the theater, saying he can no longer afford to maintain it.

``We are going to analyze it thoroughly,'' Mikos said. ``The Theater on High Street is the centerpiece of the downtown. Only time will tell.

``It's up to us to keep the theater as a performing arts venue, and how much or how little the city's or the Redevelopment Agency's money will be part of the equation has not been determined.''

Janss - who bought the building in 2001 and said he has since poured in hundreds of thousands of dollars in renovations - has not set an asking price and the amount is negotiable NEGOTIABLE. That which is capable of being transferred by assignment; a thing, the title to which may be transferred by a sale and indorsement or delivery.

, Harper said.

The ad hoc committee will make a recommendation to the City Council, after meeting with Janss and city staff, Harper said.

``We're going to have to see how it can be run and not be a drain on the city. That will be the big question. Buying it is the easy step.''
