 HARLAND ACQUIRES DATASCAN
 ATLANTA, Nov. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- John H. Harland Company


(NYSE: JH) announced that Scantron Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary, has acquired the remaining 50 percent of Datascan from French partner Sepsi, SA for an undisclosed amount of cash.
 Datascan has operated under a 50/50 partnership agreement between Scantron and Sepsi, SA since 1986. Datascan is a leading producer of OCR check reader and OMR equipment marketed through a network of established international distributors. Its headquarters are located in Villeret, Switzerland. Annual revenues are in the $6 million to $7 million range.
 Scantron, located in Tustin, Calif., is a leader in the data services industry, manufacturing and supplying OMR equipment and forms to the educational and commercial markets. Total revenues for Scantron were $42.5 million in 1990.
 "Acquiring 100 percent of Datascan will allow us to capitalize on important growth opportunities in the European market," said Robert R. Woodson, Harland president and chief executive officer. "Datascan is well positioned with a proven European distribution network, excellent research and development capabilities, and a European management team."
 Atlanta-based Harland is one of the nation's largest check printers, and also serves the financial community with a variety of related products and services. In addition, Harland is a national participant in the data service industry, serving educational and commercial markets. The company has production facilities for its business units across the United States and in Puerto Rico.
 Harland reported net sales of $286 million and net income of $44.8 million for the nine months ending Sept. 30.
