HARKEN AWARDS DRILLING CONTRACT FOR SECOND WELL IN BAHRAIN
DALLAS, Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Harken Energy Corporation ("Harken") (AMEX: HEC) of Dallas today announced that Deutag Drilling of Bad Bentheim, Germany, a division of Deutsche Tiefbohr-Aktiengesellschaft, has been awarded the contract to provide land drilling services and equipment to drill Harken's Muharraq prospect ("Muharraq").
When completed, Muharraq will be the second exploratory test well drilled by Harken on acreage held under its production sharing agreement with the Bahrain National Oil Company. On July 20, 1992, Harken announced the selection of the drill site on Muharraq Island immediately northeast of Manama, Bahrain.
Drilling is anticipated to commence in the second half of the fourth quarter of 1992, and the well is scheduled to be drilled to a depth of 9,000 feet. It will test the Jurassic Arab formation at approximately 7,100 feet and the Jurassic Fadhili formation at approximatley 8,600 feet. Both formations are productive in the Awali Field on the mainland of Bahrain.
This contract represents a significant portion of the drilling and completion costs projected for the well.
Harken Energy Corporation explores for, develops and produces oil and gas reserves domestically and internationally. Harken also provides oilfield services.
