Ryan Bart didn't necessarily expect to win top honors, but when he began his high school career he was determined to do his best.

He succeeded. When Simi Valley High School Simi Valley High School is a secondary school located in Simi Valley, California which was established in 1920 as the first high school in the valley. It nestles in the Santa Susana Mountains and is adjacent to the San Fernando Valley, part of the city and county of Ventura.  graduates receive their diplomas tonight, Bart will be honored hon·or

``It's overwhelming, in a way. There are so many other great people here,''he said.

Bart, 18, the son of Roger and Judi Bart, moved to Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  when he was in the second grade. By the time he was in high school, Bart had performed well in school and discovered a love of the sciences.

That love will take him to the University of California-Davis, where he'll major in biological sciences.

``I'm not exactly sure where it will lead. But I think I want to go into medical research,'' he said.

Despite his academic success, Bart also was determined to compete as an athlete. Though he admits he lacked the natural skill of some of his teamates, this past year Bart was a varsity wrestler who made it to the division tournaments in the 112-pound weight class.

``It was a personal victory. I struggled. It didn't come as naturally to me as school did. But I got farther than I ever thought I would,'' he said.

Despite his love for the sport, Bart doesn't intend to wrestle at UC-Davis.

``I don't think I could keep up my grades at the college level. It was hard enough here,'' he said.

During the summer Bart said he'd like to forget all the hard work and just ``hang out'' with friends. He will visit Washington D.C. soon, and plans to do some beach camping and jet-skiing.

But before the vacation begins, Bart must deliver a commencement speech A commencement speech or commencement address is a speech given to graduating students, generally at a university, although the term is also used for secondary education institutions.  to his classmates Classmates can refer to either:
