HAPEVILLE FORD WORKERS BRING HOLIDAY CHEER TO NEEDY

HAPEVILLE, Ga., Dec. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- St. Nick will be making an early call to cheer up more than 250 children gathering at Ford Motor Company's Atlanta Assembly Plant in Hapeville -- Wednesday, Dec. 23 at 12:30 p.m.
The 4- and 5-year-olds, referred by Clayton County Community Services and the Clayton County Headstart Program, will be joined by Ford/United Auto Workers (Local 882) employees who, in addition to building the Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable, will assemble a happy holiday for these children who otherwise might not have one.
In the plant cafeteria, the guests will enjoy a holiday dinner, along with fruit and candy.
Learning toys and other gifts will be distributed by St. Nick, who in other attire would look much like Keith Lowery who installs seat covers in the Taurus and Sable. And, as is tradition, St. Nick will be getting some assistance while making his rounds.
For example, "Johnny B. Farmer," a local clown, has agreed to provide some entertainment. And A.J. Laws, of the plant's Paint Department, will help. He is coordinator of the joint Ford-UAW committee arranging the event. Welcoming the guests will be Bob Anderson, manager of the 2.3-million-square-foot plant; J.C. Phillips, chairman of UAW Local 882, and Frank Samples, president of the local.
Plant employees donated funds for the celebration and Ford dealers and suppliers assisted as well. The United Automobile Workers union and Ford Motor Company also donated funds to buy food for the plant celebration and a separate holiday food drive.
Laws said that approximately 250 food baskets will be distributed on Wednesday, Dec. 23 to residents of Hapeville as well as Fulton and Clayton counties.
Laws said: "We are doing this for one reason, because we care. I just hope that all of us who are fortunate enough to have health and happiness, will reach out and share what we can with those less fortunate -- during this and every season."
