 HANSON APPOINTS NEW ASSOCIATE DIRECTORS
 LONDON, Sept. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Lord Hanson, chairman of Hanson PLC


(NYSE: HAN), and Derek Bonham, chief executive officer, announced today the appointment of five new associate directors: Leslie Ashford, Robert E. Lee, Edwin Silverstone, David Snowdon and John H. Wimberly.
 Commenting on the appointments, Mr. Bonham said, "We are very pleased to be able to recognize the important contributions these managers are making to the company's success both here and in the United States."
 Lord Hanson and Mr. Bonham also announced the resignation of Robert Stift as an associate director, following his appointment earlier this year to the post of chief executive of Hanson Industries' Grove Worldwide.
 Leslie Ashford, 52, is chief executive of Hanson Industrial Services, a position he assumed in 1990. Mr. Ashford joined Hanson in 1982 following Hanson's acquisition of United Gas Industries. His previous positions with the company include chief executive of Big Dutchman (1985) and chief executive of Hanson Engineering Services (1990). Mr. Ashford received the Hanson Manager of the Year Award in 1983.
 Robert E. Lee, 36, is vice president and chief financial officer of Hanson Industries, a position he assumed earlier this year. Mr. Lee joined Hanson in 1981 following Hanson's acquisition of McDonough Company. He was transferred to Hanson Industries' corporate office in 1982. Mr. Lee's previous positions with the company include treasurer (1987) and vice president and treasurer (1990).
 Edwin Silverstone, 50, is group vice president responsible for footwear, housewares, Jacuzzi and leisure companies, a position he assumed in 1986. Mr. Silverstone joined Hanson in 1986 following Hanson's acquisition of SCM Corp.
 David Snowdon, 48, is chairman of Beazer Homes and London Brick, a position he assumed earlier this year. Mr. Snowdon joined Hanson in 1975 as a financial comptroller. His previous positions with the company include finance director of British Ever Ready (1982) and managing director of London Brick (1986).
 John H. Wimberly, 46, is group vice president of Hanson Industries, a position he assumed in 1990, and chairman of Beazer USA, a position he assumed in 1991. Mr. Wimberly joined Hanson in 1987 following Hanson's acquisition of Kaiser Cement. His previous positions with the company include chairman of Hanson Industries Building Products Group (1988).
