SPILLIS CANDELA & PARTNERS FOCUSES ON ENERGY-EFFICIENT
 AND ENVIRONMENTALLY SENSITIVE DESIGNS
MIAMI -- Spillis Candela & Partners, one of Florida's oldest and largest architectural, engineering and interior design firms, is incorporating energy-efficient and environmentally sensitive engineering concepts into its building designs. The firm also is retrofitting existing buildings with the same technology.
Spillis Candela's design for the recently completed AAA headquarters building in Orlando, Fla. features a computerized climate-control system that adjusts temperature and humidity throughout the facility as needed. The building's 77-foot-high atrium allows maximum light, but restricts radiation through a system of louvers which act as a sunscreen. During periods of low demand, the air conditioning system produces ice, which is used to cool the building during peak demand periods. "Spillis Candela has a commitment to innovation and will continue to advance its environmentally sensitive and energy efficient design concepts into the next century," says Hilario Candela, president of Spillis Candela & Partners.
