HANES NAMED LANG'S TOP AD EXEC.
WOODLAND HILLS - Douglas Hanes, a longtime senior executive at The Orange County Register, on Thursday was named senior vice president of advertising and marketing for the Los Angeles Newspaper Group, which includes the Daily News.
The appointment was announced by LANG President and CEO John Schueler.
Prior to joining LANG, Hanes was vice president for sales at Freedom Media Enterprises, which includes The Orange County Register, the Colorado Springs Gazette and the Tribune in Mesa, Ariz. Earlier, Hanes worked for Titsch Publishing and Harte-Hanks Communications. He also owned and led a group of weekly newspapers in Denver.
Hanes, 57, replaces Tracy Rafter who earlier this week was named publisher and CEO of the Daily News.
``Doug is a natural fit for this position,'' Schueler said. ``His background, experience and skill make him ideally suited for this leadership position.''
Hanes said, ``I couldn't be more excited about this appointment. Joining a great team dedicated to providing advertisers and readers with exciting news and advertising products both in print and online is an incredible opportunity.''
In addition to the Daily News, LANG newspapers include the Press Telegram in Long Beach, the Pasadena Star-News, the Whittier Daily News, the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin in Ontario, The Sun in San Bernardino and the Redlands Daily Facts. The newspapers have a combined circulation of 520,595 daily and 582,055 Sunday, forming the equivalent of the nation's eighth-largest daily newspaper and 17th-largest Sunday newspaper.
LANG is part of MediaNews Group of Denver, the nation's seventh-largest newspaper company.
