HANDLEMAN COMPANY ANNOUNCES MANAGEMENT CHANGES

 TROY, Mich., Jan. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Stephen Strome, president and chief executive officer of Handleman Company (NYSE: HDL), announced the following management changes:
 -- David Stevens to Vice President/Product Licensing and Acquisitions for Video Treasures. Stevens, formerly Vice President of Video Purchasing, will be primarily responsible for strengthening the budget product line offered by Video Treasures. He will report to George Port, President of Video Treasures, and will assist Port on special projects. Stevens joined Handleman in 1979 and was elected a Vice President in June 1992.
 -- Mario DeFilippo to Senior Vice President/Video Product Manager. DeFilippo had been responsible for music purchasing. He will continue to report to Lawrence Hicks, Senior Vice President of Merchandising. DeFilippo started with Handleman in 1980, was elected a Vice President in January 1983, and Senior Vice President in June 1988.
 -- Jerry Adams to Vice President/Music Product Manager reporting to Hicks. Adams will now be completely responsible for all music purchasing for Handleman. He joined Handleman in 1957, left in 1974, and then rejoined the company in March 1991, as a Vice President.
 Strome said, "These changes have been made to position the company to continue its growth over the next few years and in addition it will provide a diversified experience for managers with the organization."
 Handleman is the largest merchandiser of prerecorded music and videos, books and home computer software in North America. Headquartered in Troy, the company reached $1 billion in sales for the fiscal year which ended May 2, 1992. The company has 4,100 employees in 20 facilities throughout the United States and Canada.
