HANCOCK RETIRES AS VICE PRESIDENT & GENERAL COUNSEL OF DOW CHEMICAL

 MIDLAND, Mich., Jan. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Wayne M. Hancock, vice president and general counsel for The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW), retired at the end of 1993 as he had announced earlier this year.
 "We will miss Wayne Hancock's friendship, his invaluable counsel and his unrelentless efforts to advance Dow's legal position on a variety of issues," said Enrique C. Falla, executive vice president. "He retires after 27 years of much-appreciated service."
 Hancock joined Dow in 1967 as an attorney in the Legal Department in Midland, where he held a variety of positions before being named director of Labor Relations and Safety for Dow Chemical U.S.A. in 1971. He was appointed director of Personnel Relations for Dow U.S.A. in 1973. In 1977, he transferred to Dow Europe as director of Legal, Personnel and Administrative Affairs. He became Dow Europe vice president responsible for the Italian Region in 1979, while retaining legal responsibilities as general counsel for Dow Europe. He returned to Midland in 1981 as general counsel of The Dow Chemical Company and was elected vice president in 1985.
 Hancock received a bachelor's degree in business administration from Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah, and a juris doctorate in law from the University of Arizona, Tucson. He served in the Judge Advocate General branch of the U.S. Air Force for four years and practiced law for six years in Phoenix before joining Dow.
