HAMBURGER HAMLETS REOPEN AFTER LOS ANGELES RIOTS
SHERMAN OAKS, Calif., May 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Fourteen out of

19 Hamburger Hamlets in the Los Angeles area were partially or totally closed during the recent Los Angeles riots causing a $210,000 gross revenue decline, according to Thomas A. McFall, chairman and chief executive officer.
"There was no damage to any of our restaurants," McFall reported, "and no employees or guests were injured."
"Our restaurants are generally not located in any of the areas where violence occurred," he said. "However, the restaurants were closed out of concern for the safety of our employees and guests, and to comply with the citywide curfew," McFall added. "We didn't want anyone traveling to or from their homes during this crucial period," he added.
As of May 3, all Hamburger Hamlets are open. "People are returning to our restaurants, and it appears to be business as usual," he said. "We do not expect any long-lasting after effects."
The company will provide short-term loans to employees who lost out on wages during the crisis. "The loans will assist our employees in meeting their financial obligations," McFall added.
Founded in 1950, Hamburger Hamlet Restaurants Inc., owns and operates 27 restaurants in the Southern California (19), Washington, D.C. (six) and Chicago (two) metropolitan areas. The company's common stock is traded through the NASDAQ National Market under the symbol "HAMB."
