If you want to get into the spirit of fear, try these local events:

Agoura Hills

Night Scares, a haunted house A haunted house is defined as building that is believed to be a center for supernatural occurrences or paranormal phenomena.[1] A haunted house may contain ghosts, poltergeists, or even malevolent entities.  on the Ventura Highway (101) at Kanan Road in Agoura Hills, features many high-tech scares and dozens of nightmares. Open from 7 to midnight tonight and from 7 to 10 p.m. Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday. Tickets are $9. Information: (818) 594-4049.

Burbank

The city of Burbank invites all youths to celebrate Halloween with preschool parties at 10 a.m. Thursday at these locations: Verdugo Recreation Center, 3201 W. Verdugo Ave.; McCambridge Recreation Center, 1515 N. Glenoaks Blvd.; and Olive Recreation Center, 1111 W. Olive Ave. Elementary school-age children are invited to a party at 6:30 p.m. Halloween night at Olive Recreation Center and Verdugo Recreation Center, where there will be carnival-type games until 8:30 p.m. and a costume parade at 7:30. Admission is free. Middle-school-age kids are invited to a teen dance from 7:30 to 10:30 tonight at the Verdugo Recreation Center. Costumes are encouraged, but masks are not allowed. The city of Calabasas' fourth annual Halloween Carnival will be held from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Grape Arbor Park, at the corner of Canwood Street and Parkville Road, north of the Ventura Freeway The Ventura Freeway is a freeway in southern California running from Ventura to Pasadena. The Shiloh Community Church hosts its 12th annual Halloween Carnival at Peach Hill Park, located at Peach Hill Drive and Christian Barrett Drive, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday. Newbury Park

Come to a haunted house put on by Girl Scout Senior Troop 952 from 7 to 8:30 tonight. Games, treats, prizes and a spooky atmosphere will be the deal at 667 Paseo de Leon. Admission is $1 for adults and $2.50 per child with profits going to the Ventura Rescue Mission and the Senior Girl Scout Cruise Fund. Bring trick-or-treat bag and a can of food for the mission. North Hollywood

Halloween Horrors VII is open at First United Methodist Church First United Methodist Church is a common name for the first United Methodist church established in a particular locality. Activities include an Enchanted Forest In literature, an enchanted forest is a forest under, or containing, enchantments. Northridge

The Northridge Recreation Center, located on the hill of Northridge Park, 18300 Lemarsh St., has created a haunted house where the terror begins at 6:30 tonight, Sunday, Monday and Thursday. Sherman Oaks

Fashion Square invites all families to trick-or-treat inside the mall. From 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, 100 specialty stores and cafes will distribute candy to all little goblins. Universal City

Casper will haunt Universal CityWalk Universal CityWalk is a part of Universal Studios Hollywood, Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Japan originating from Universal's first park, Universal Studios Hollywood. , 1000 Universal Center Drive, from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. CityWalk will be transformed into a ghostly haven for families with a Casper Activity Center featuring scary storytelling, a monster makeup station, a Casper pumpkin patch and more. Casper trick-or-treat bags will be distributed throughout the day for trick-or-treating between 4 and 6 p.m., when participating shops and restaurants will be giving away treats. Universal Studios presents its Chamber of Chills from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. nightly through Nov. 3. The event features a live-action haunted house and chilling in-the-flesh ghostly encounters. Admission is $8. Information: (818) 622-4455.

Valencia

Six Flags Magic Mountain Six Flags Magic Mountain is an amusement park located just west of the Valencia neighborhood of Santa Clarita, north of Los Angeles. Each family will receive a free pumpkin, and helium balloons and activities will be offered for children. Admission is free. The Mid-Valley Chamber of Commerce presents its first annual Great Pumpkin Fest The Pumpkin Festival (a.k.a. Winnetka

The Winnetka Recreation Center, 8401 Winnetka Ave., hosts a Halloween carnival from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday. A costume parade will be open to ages 3 to 16with game booths, prizes, food, a cake walk and more. Admission is $2 per person. Information: (818) 341-1430.

Woodland Hills

Mickey's Halloween Treat Mickey's Halloween Treat is an annual Halloween-themed separate admission event (also called a "hard ticket event") at Disney's California Adventure, part of the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California since 2005.  continues at Disneyland from 7 p.m. to midnight Tuesday through Thursday. The events features treats at nearly 50 trick-or-treat stations, special effects, jack-o'-lanterns, ghosts, witches, Disney characters and more. Costumes are encouraged but masks are not allowed. Buena Park

Knott's Scary Farm, 8039 Beach Blvd., presents its 24th Halloween Haunt from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. tonight, Sunday and Wednesday through Saturday. Featured are the Gauntlet: Festival of Freaks, eight haunted mazes, three haunted rides, six haunted shows and more than 1,000 monsters. Admission is $29.95 in advance or $33.95 the day of attendance. They may be purchased at the Knott's ticket office or through Robinsons-May, Blockbuster Music, Tower Records or Ticketmaster. Hollywood

All Hallow's Eve, celebrating the invisible boundary between the living and the restless spirits of the dead, will be celebrated from 6 to 9 p.m. and 9 p.m. to midnight tonight at the American Legion American Legion, national association of male and female war veterans, founded (1919) in Paris. Membership is open to veterans of World Wars I and II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. , 2035 N. Eaton Canyon Nature Center, 1750 N. Altadena Drive, will have a Howl-O-Ween Walk from 5 to 9 tonight. The haunted nature walks will take place every 20 minutes. After the walk, visit the witch's kitchen for some vile concoctions and goodies, scary stories, face painting, fortune telling and more. Requested donation for the walk is $3 per person, $1 to $10 for face painting, and $1 for fortune telling. Information: (818) 398-5420.

Santa Monica

``Alien'' life forms discovered at the original crash site in Roswell, N.M., have been transported to Santa Monica. The ``aliens'' will be unveiled 5 to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 5 p.m. to midnight Fridays, noon to midnight Saturdays, and noon to 10 p.m. Sundays through Nov. 2 at Area 51: Alien Terror, 1418 Fourth St., Santa Monica. Pier Thrills and Chills on the Santa Monica Pier The Santa Monica Pier is located at the foot of Colorado Avenue in Santa Monica, California and is a prominent landmark. Attractions
