HALLIBURTON NAMES SILAS TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS

 DALLAS, July 15 /PRNewswire/ -- The board of directors of Halliburton Company (NYSE: HAL) elected C. J. "Pete" Silas to the company's board of directors effective today.
 Silas, 61, is chairman and chief executive officer of Phillips Petroleum Company. The company is engaged in crude oil and natural gas exploration and production activities worldwide and is also active in petroleum refining and marketing and the manufacture, distribution and export of a wide variety of chemicals.
 He began his career with Phillips Petroleum in 1953 and has served in a variety of managerial and executive positions within the company, including its gas and gas liquids, exploration and production, and chemical sales functions. He was elected president of the company in 1982 and chairman and chief executive officer in 1985.
 Silas is a chemical engineering graduate of Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech). He is chairman of the board of the American Petroleum Institute and the National Boys and Girls Clubs of America, is past chairman of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and serves on the board of other organizations including Junior Achievement, Inc. He is active as a member of numerous industry and civic organizations including the National Petroleum Council, the Conference Board and The Business Roundtable.
