Stein tapped Riordan supporters and others to outraise the incumbent in campaign financing.

``I'm disappointed, but I'm also proud,'' Stein said of the election results. ``I'm proud we brought issues out that needed to be discussed.

``I entered the campaign knowing how difficult it was to defeat an incumbent, especially one who is heir to a political dynasty.''

Hahn, who is the son of former county Supervisor Kenneth Hahn Kenneth "Kenny" Frederick Hahn (August 19, 1920–1997) was a member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors for forty years from 1952 to 1992. Stein used his campaign war chest to finance a flood of mailers and television ads that highlighted Riordan's endorsement of the challenger and attacked Hahn's operation of the office.

Hahn's campaign highlighted a drop in crime during the city attorney's tenure and criticized Stein for his decision as president of the Airport Commission to hire Whitewater figure Webster Hubbell as a lobbyist.

``I'm disappointed that he tried to smear me and distort my record,'' Stein said.
