H.-W. VOLLEYBALL TROPHY CASE GETTING CROWDED H.-W. 3, BIS.MONT. 1.

``This one's smaller than the other ones,'' Quiroz said to a friend. ``Cool. It won't take up as much space.''

Hey, when you've got four other championship plaques on display at school, size and space suddenly become concerns. Not that finding a place to show off No. 5, which the Wolverines earned Friday night by beating annual nemesis Nemesis (nĕm`ĭsĭs), in Greek religion and mythology, personification of the gods' retribution for violation of sacred law; the avenger. Sometimes she was said to be the goddess of good and ill fortune.  Bishop Montgomery 15-12, 15-7, 9-15, 15-13 in the section final, should be a problem.

Harvard-Westlake is getting used to bringing home the hardware, having won five titles in six years. If worse comes to worse they can purchase a new trophy case just for the volleyball team.

In a year when so many things came easy to the Wolverines (22-2), Bishop Montgomery (21-12) made them work Friday, becoming the only team to take a playoff game Noun 1. playoff game - one game in the series of games constituting a playoff
game - a single play of a sport or other contest; "the game lasted two hours"

playoff - any final competition to determine a championship
against Harvard-Westlake and pushing them hard in game four before finally succumbing.

``I wouldn't have wanted it any other way,'' said Wolverines outside hitter Karalyn Kuchenbecker, who had 22 kills and six digs. ``They're a great team and they made us earn it. That's what winning championships is all about.''

Kuchenbecker now has two titles in three years, although the second is much more meaningful. She wasn't much of a factor two years ago, but shewas one third of the Wolverines' explosive, dominating trio this seasonalong with Courtney Schultz (25 kills, six digs) and Anna Nesser (nine digs).

But there were other standouts for Harvard-Westlake. Nicole Davidson, Terbrie Taylor, Elizabeth Taylor, Elizabeth, 1932–, Anglo-American film actress, b. London. Regarded as one of the world's most beautiful women, Taylor went from child star to a series of ladylike roles to playing worldly, sometimes shrewish women.  Goldstein and Kimberly Quiroz (nine digs) provided solid defense while Anne Hoeksma had 54 assists.

The Wolverines needed every contribution. The Knights were on the vergeof tying the match at 2-2 in the fourth game after overcoming a 12-6 deficit to make it 12-12.

The Wolverines scored the next two points to go ahead 14-12 and after a Bishop Montgomery point and a sideout, Davidson got the winning point on a block.

``I can't even describe how I feel,'' Kuchenbecker said. ``I think we relaxed a little in that third game, but we finally got it together in thefourth to win it.''

Bishop Montgomery knocked the Wolverines out of the playoffs two out ofthe last three years - in the Southern Section final last year and in the state playoffs the year before that - which makes Friday's victory all the more special.

``We've wanted this for a long time,'' Kuchenbecker said.
