Although some HDTV sets are available in standard (rather square) screen sizes, the overwhelming majority of sets are wide screen, which eliminates  home entertainment experience, including music, video, photos and Web surfing, all with one universal remote.

The Gyration product closes the gap left by conventional remote controls with the Motion by Gyration[TM] intuitive, motion-sensing gyro technology. The user simply waves the remote in the air and the on-screen on·screen or on-screen

cursor will track the hand motion just like a desktop mouse. With a range of up to 100 feet, digiphiles can use the device from the comfort of the sofa, or while roaming around the house. The mice also alleviates the need for separate remote controls for the TV, DVD player, cable box and stereo, or a regular PC mouse to control the Vista Media Center -- Gyration's MCR controls it all.

"A traditional mouse is fine for simple desktop computer functions like writing a letter, but when using a media center in the living room, the average person doesn't want to have to be tied down by wires and the need to find a flat surface for the mouse," said Greg Smith, vice president of marketing at Gyration. "We understand people have a natural spatial awareness, so we designed the Media Center Remote to detect simple pointing motion, acting as a handheld pointing and clicking device so people can use natural hand movements to control their entertainment."

Gyration's MCR functions via radio frequency (RF) for the PC, as well as Infrared (IR) for traditional audio/video (A/V (1) (Audio/Video) Refers to equipment and applications that deal with sound and sight. The A/V world includes microphones, tape recorders, audio mixers, still and video cameras, film projectors, slide projectors, VCRs, CD and DVD players/recorders, amplifiers and ) components. With today's converged Web technologies, the MCR also allows full in-air mouse control to surf the Web, access streaming media sites such as YouTube[R], AOL (A division of Time Warner, Inc., New York, NY, www.aol.com) The world's largest online information service with access to the Internet, e-mail, chat rooms and a variety of databases and services.  Music[R] or Google Video[R], or to view online photos and video.

The Motion by Gyration[TM] technology works with Microsoft's Media Center Edition for both Windows Vista and Windows XP[TM]. Gyration's remotes are easy to master and use, even for the non-technical consumer, and will not break the family budget.
