Guns v Roses.
TRACII Guns is a bona fide rock star and if you havenAEt heard of the first and third bands he formed, The LA Guns and Brides of Destruction, you will know his second u Guns NAE Roses. In another life it could have been Tracii Guns up there with Axl Rose instead of Slash, but the guitarist stands by his decision to quit the band.
It was in Los Angeles in 1983 when Guns, then 17, formed The LA Guns with 21-year-old singer Axl Rose.
Rose then quit the band to form Hollywood Rose, and soon after Guns joined him with the band changing its name to Guns NAE Roses.
But a few months later Guns returned to The LA Guns because he didnAEt like the opiano funk musico direction RoseAEs music was headed. Rose replaced him with GunsAE childhood friend Slash.
Still bearing TraciiAEs surname, Guns NAE Roses became one of the biggest rock bands of all time, while The LA Guns enjoyed success on a smaller scale.
oIf I had stayed with Axl I donAEt know if Guns NAE Roses would have been any better or worse but I think it would have been a very different band,o said a laid- back Guns from a hotel room in Camden. oWe would have had a bit more fire.
oBut the key to that bandAEs success was Axl because at that time his singing really connected with people on a social level.o
Since the bitter divorce of the Axl/Slash partnership, Rose has become a real enigma and is notoriously difficult to deal with, something Guns knows first-hand.
oI havenAEt spoken to Axl since 1988, but we still have a lot of mutual friends.
oI donAEt wish him ill, but itAEs hard because he never stops saying bad things about me.
oHe was on my MySpace page doing that very recently.
oAxlAEs problem is that if people donAEt support him 100 per cent in what heAEs doing, he just doesnAEt want to know them any more.
oHeAEs so talented but that talent comes from being a nervous wreck and some place in your head you need to be happy, which he isnAEt.o
GunsAE subsequent career saw him play with an array of bands including WASP, Poison and Faster Pussycat, and also enjoyed real success with Brides Of Destruction which he formed with Motley Crue drummer Nikki Sixx. But none of his other project has matched the success of Guns NAE Roses.
oI do think about it,o said the open and likeable guitarist.
oIf IAEd stayed with Guns NAE Roses for two more years I could have financed my rock and roll dreams u got Blackie Lawless to play bass, Nikki Sixx on drums and Robert Plant to sing u but at the same time we had a pretty good run with The LA Guns, so I take the positives because IAEm still touring Europe.o
oBut the problem with being on the road is that I do have a lot of time to think.o
