Gun Violence.

Is more gun control needed?

YES More than 750,000 Americans have been killed by guns since 1960. Gun violence is one of the great American pastimes.

In the wake of the April 20 tragedy in Littleton, Colorado The City of Littleton is a home rule municipality located in the Denver Metropolitan Area of the State of Colorado. As of 2005, the city is estimated to have a total population of 40,396.[1] Littleton is the 17th most populous city in the State of Colorado. , the House of Representatives had a chance to take a tiny step toward reversing the pervasive slaughter of Americans by guns. But the Republicans made sure that didn't happen.

What did pass the House was a patently unconstitutional measure allowing public schools to post the Ten Commandments Ten Commandments or Decalogue [Gr.,=ten words], in the Bible, the summary of divine law given by God to Moses on Mt. Sinai. They have a paramount place in the ethical system in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.  on classroom walls.

A better idea was offered by Bill Bradley For other uses, see Bill Bradley (disambiguation) and William Bradley.
William Warren "Bill" Bradley (born July 28, 1943) is an American hall of fame basketball player, Rhodes scholar, and former U.S.
, the former Democratic Senator from New Jersey, who is running for President. He called for a complete ban on the manufacture, sale, distribution, and possession of the cheap handguns known as Saturday-night specials. He wants all handguns to be registered and says potential gun owners should first be required to pass a safety course and obtain a license. Bradley also supports proposals to limit handgun purchases by any one person to one a month, and to require trigger locks on handguns.

Bradley recently asked, "Why is it so difficult in this country to have a rational dialogue about reducing gun violence?"

NO On April 20, 1999, after a year of planning--and signs of trouble ignored by parents, teachers, and peers--Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold opened fire on fellow students at Columbine High School Columbine High School is a secondary school in unincorporated Jefferson County, Colorado. The school is located at 6201 South Pierce Street, one mile west of the Littleton city limits and half a mile south of the Denver city/county line.  in Littleton, Colorado.

The response was predictable: Guns were used in committing the mayhem, and so somehow it happened because of them. And, of course, all gun owners--responsible, law-abiding, or not--collectively share in the blame.

More "reasonable" gun laws needed? (Apparently, 20,000 are still not enough.) Too easy access to firearms This is an extensive list of small arms — pistol, machine gun, grenade launcher, anti-tank rifle — that includes variants.

Forty years ago, kids could buy a gun over the counter, and it was considered normal for them to carry guns around for hunting and recreation. No Littletons, then.

We won't find any simple, single answer. But teaching our children that violence is wrong under any circumstances--even when necessary to protect their own lives--conditions them to be victims, and serves to devalue their lives in preference to the lives of the Harrises and Klebolds of this world.

Considering the facts and not merely wishful thinking wishful thinking Psychology Dereitic thought that a thing or event should have a specified outcome , one thing is certain: Gun control won't stop the madness--it will only make it worse.
