"Gulf Ethanol is targeting the Jefferson County area as a site for a potential Bio-Energy production facility," Mr. Robert Starkey, Vice President Refinery and Plant Development, Gulf Ethanol Corp., explained. "We believe Jefferson County has a lot to offer not only in terms of ability to produce the bio-feedstock, but also the transportation infrastructure needed for distribution."

This year's theme is "Harvesting Energy." The morning program speakers include: Jeff Dahlberg, Research Director of the National Sorghum sorghum, tall, coarse annual (Sorghum vulgare) of the family Gramineae (grass family), somewhat similar in appearance to corn (but having the grain in a panicle rather than an ear) and used for much the same purposes.  Producers, to speak about sorghums and cellulosic feedstocks; Teyy Isbell, Research Unit Leader with the USDA-ARS USDA-ARS United States Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service  in Peoria, Illinois, to discuss "Potential New Crops for East Texas"; and Jankie Prince, a producer from Arkansas providing his impressions of the US farmer's ability to compete with the Brazilian Bio-Ethanol industry. Field tours starting at 8:00 a.m., and an afternoon tour on forage, sorghum, and soybean soybean, soya bean, or soy pea, leguminous plant (Glycine max, G. soja, or Soja max) of the family Leguminosae (pulse family), native to tropical and warm temperate regions of Asia, where it has been  production and energy cane plots.

Rice growers are invited to attend and see firsthand the new and developing technologies that can help reduce production risk. Among the issues and technologies discussed or displayed at the field days will be bioenergy-based agricultural production, production management of new varieties, and rice agronomic a·gron·o·my

"This is an exciting time to be a part of the budding Alternative Energy Industry," JT Cloud said. With U.S. corn growers producing around 11 billion bushels of corn a year, more than 25 percent of that will go to ethanol production by the end of 2008," he continued. "Ethanol producers and distillers must find economically stable sources of feedstock if ethanol is to remain as the nation's leading alternative fuel. That's why we are targeting sorghum production near Beaumont."

According to USDA USDA,

Chief Economist Keith Collins, 14 percent of the corn crop went into ethanol production last year. He says that number will rise to about 20-percent this year. The large corn acreage report and the improving outlook for ethanol pricing, driven by strengthening crude-oil prices will likely add support to companies like Gulf Ethanol Corporation, Archer Daniels Midland The Archer Daniels Midland Company (NYSE: ADM), is a conglomeration based in Decatur, Illinois.
