Guardian Technologies Announces Extension of USC Collaboration to Develop Clinical Protocols and Advanced Prototype for Signature Mapping.

Prototype to Provide Model for Company's Advanced Disease Detection Technology Targeting Multibillion Dollar Healthcare Market

HERNDON, Va. -- Guardian Technologies International (OTCBB OTCBB

See OTC Bulletin Board (OTCBB).
: GDTI), innovators of groundbreaking medical imaging and threat detection technology with critical and immediate applications for the healthcare and homeland security markets, announced today that the Medical Imaging and Informatics Laboratory at the University of California The University of California has a combined student body of more than 191,000 students, over 1,340,000 living alumni, and a combined systemwide and campus endowment of just over $7.3 billion (8th largest in the United States).  (USC An abbreviation for U.S. Code. ) has extended its collaboration agreement with the Company to further validate the real world application of Signature Mapping[TM] and to develop a prototype that will serve as a model for future use by radiologists.

Clinical evaluation clinical evaluation Medtalk An evaluation of whether a Pt has symptoms of a disease, is responding to treatment, or is having adverse reactions to therapy  and initial prototype development will be led by Dr. H.K. Huang, Professor of Radiology and Biomedical Engineering at USC. Dr. Huang and his team will be evaluating feedback provided by radiologists regarding potential enhancements to Signature Mapping visualization tools and integration methodology as it applies to medical radiological imaging workflow.

"We believe that working with Dr. Huang and his world-class team at USC provides further validation for Signature Mapping and takes us one step closer to delivering the promise of our technology to radiologists around the world," said Bill Donovan, President and Chief Operating Officer Chief Operating Officer (COO)

The officer of a firm responsible for day-to-day management, usually the president or an executive vice-president.
of Guardian Technologies International. "This agreement is yet another example of Guardian's continued mission to commercialize Signature Mapping as a primary means of building exceptional value for our shareholders."

According to the agreement, Guardian and USC will collaborate on three distinct areas: breast imaging and breast cancer research; chest imaging and tuberculosis detection and monitoring; and traumatic brain injury Traumatic brain injury (TBI), traumatic injuries to the brain, also called intracranial injury, or simply head injury, occurs when a sudden trauma causes brain damage. TBI can result from a closed head injury or a penetrating head injury and is one of two subsets of acquired brain  and acute intracranial intracranial /in·tra·cra·ni·al/ (-kra´ne-al) within the cranium.

Focusing on breast imaging and breast cancer detection, USC will provide continued analytical validation of Signature Mapping as it relates to the recently announced success from the South Florida mammography mammography, diagnostic procedure that uses low-dose X rays to detect abnormalities in the breasts. The early diagnosis of breast cancer made possible by the routine use of mammography for screening women increases a woman's treatment alternatives and improves her  database. USC will also focus on the development and evaluation of a clinical prototype for use in mammography for the visualization of breast cancer and study the integrated use of MRI 1.  and mammography as an effective screening and diagnostic tool.

USC will also support the development and evaluation of a prototype for use in screening, monitoring and staging after the detection of tuberculosis. USC's clinical focus will be on chest x-rays, either from direct digital or scanned film.

Furthermore, USC will apply its efforts towards Signature Mapping's application to acute traumatic brain injury with the development and evaluation of a prototype for use in detection and quantification of acute intracranial hemorrhage acute intracranial hemorrhage,

Signature Mapping is protected by a robust patent portfolio. Guardian has already undertaken research, development and clinical evaluation on challenges ranging from more precise and earlier detection of breast and prostate cancer. Research has also proven that Signature Mapping can automatically detect intracranial hemorrhagic Hemorrhagic

About Guardian Technologies International

The impact of Guardian's industry-first computer aided detection technologies are immediate and profound for helping to eliminate human error in both the Homeland Security and the Medical Industry sectors. The Company's software solutions can be seamlessly installed to complement existing imaging devices, such as baggage scanners and medical MRI, to scan the contents of any image and immediately identify items of interest not easily discernable by the human eye.

* Airport Security: Guardian's technology complements and enhances current-generation baggage x-ray scanners with the ability to automatically and effectively detect, locate, and identify explosives and other types of threats.

* Disease Identification: Existing medical imaging devices used in Computer Aided Detection (CAD) are further improved with Guardian's auto-diagnostic ability to detect anomalous tissue (e.g., tumors) and other potential disease states or conditions.

* Technology-Independence: Because Guardian's technologies utilize and process the actual image output generated by the original imaging systems, virtually any existing or future imaging device can be upgraded with Guardian's products, delivering an instant, multibillion-dollar potential customer base with no competition.

Guardian's technology and product development partnerships include a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement “CRADA” redirects here. For other uses, see CRADA (disambiguation).
