Guardian Mobile Announces Innovative Restricted-Use Two-Way Mobile Communications Service for Parents of Pre-Teens and Caregivers.

LAKE HOPATCONG Lake Hopatcong is the largest freshwater body in the state of New Jersey, USA, approximately 4 square miles (10 km²) in area. The lake is located in the mountains of northern New Jersey, north of Netcong and along the border between Sussex and Morris counties. , N.J. -- Guardian Mobile Communications, Inc., a New Jersey based Mobile Virtual Network Operator A Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) is a company that provides mobile (sometimes called wireless or cellular) telephone service but does not have its own allocation of the radio frequency spectrum nor all of the infrastructure required to provide mobile telephone service.  (MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) A reseller of wireless services. MVNOs do not own licensed spectrum and typically do not have any of their own wireless network infrastructure. ) announces the planned availability of a two-way, restricted-use, mobile communications service for parents with pre-teen children and caregivers to seniors.

In a move counter to current wireless industry trends, Guardian Mobile will make available a two-way restricted-use mobile communications service that offers subscribers only basic voice services.

As compared to the traditional cell phone, the company's Parent Pal Pocket Communicator(TM) might best be described as a mini-mobile. With just two send buttons on its touchpad A stationary pointing device that provides a small, flat surface that you slide your finger over using the same movements as you would a mouse. You can tap on the pad's surface as an alternate to pressing one of the touchpad keys. See mouse, trackball and pointing stick. , parents can restrict their child's use to placing calls from the Pocket Communicator(TM) to pre-programmed "guardian numbers" designated by the subscriber. Similarly, incoming calls to the Pocket Communicator(TM) will also be limited to pre-designated "guardian numbers".

Gregory Barry, Guardian Mobile's Senior Vice President of Operations, the company believes it has found the right balance between parents' concerns and the convenience offered by outfitting their pre-teens with mobile phones. "Parents like the convenience and peace-of-mind that cell phones provide, but are concerned that their pre-teen children may not act responsibly if given a phone with all the features and functionality available though today's mobile phones", says Barry, "We believe parents and caregivers will like the convenience, peace-of-mind, and ease of use afforded by the Parent Pal Pocket Communicator(TM)."

The service, which Guardian Mobile is targeting to have available in select markets mid-year, will most likely be sold on a flat rate basis with subscribers paying a fixed monthly fee for the service. The price of the Pocket Communicator(TM) will be a function of the term of the service plan the subscriber chooses. "We understand anything put in the hands of children at play or school has a tendency to go-missing", says Barry "so the idea is to hit a price point for the Parent Pal that minimizes this concern."

The company claims that although the Parent Pal Pocket Communicator(TM) is deliberately limited in its functionality, it will offer the same quality and reliability as today's most advanced 3rd generation mobile communications services. Through a combination of patent-pending technology and proprietary wireless intelligent networking (WIN) applications, the service intelligence will be distributed between the Pocket Communicator(TM) and the network elements. The complexity of the service offering is its adaptive nature.
