Guard lawmakers form new group.


Thirty-one state legislators nationwide who serve in the National Guard or Reserves have formed the National Network of Legislators in the Military to share information about balancing their twin responsibilities.

 Representative K. Mark Takai is the group's first chairman. They formed after a national survey found that at least 57 state legislators were currently serving. The survey also found that 30 state legislators, including Takai, have been mobilized at least once in the war on terror This article is about U.S. actions, and those of other states, after September 11, 2001. The War on Terror (also known as the War on Terrorism
 and that most states have at least one lawmaker serving in the Guard or Reserve.

The network has three initial purposes: to provide information to legislators who are or might be mobilized; to share best practices and model state legislation to support the military; and to provide a channel through which organizations supporting the military can work together.
