Growth of the physician-hospital organization.


As managed health care grows in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. , new types of organizations develop. One type is the physician-hospital organization physician-hospital organization Managed care A corporation formed by a hospital and its medical staff to contract with MCOs. See Managed care.  (PHO), a legal entity formed by a hospital and a group of physicians to share administrative services and costs and improve their bargaining position with payers, which include preferred provider organizations preĀ·ferred provider organization

Abbr. PPO A medical insurance plan in which members receive more coverage if they choose health care providers approved by or affiliated with the plan.
