Growing an Enterprise System: Siemens Nixdorf Implements SAP R/3 for Deere & Company.

BURLINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 14, 1998--Siemens Nixdorf Information Systems, Inc. has been contracted by Deere & Company to assist with a worldwide transition from legacy systems to the integrated business environment of SAP R/3 software.

The John Deere name is recognized worldwide for agricultural and construction equipment, lawn and grounds care products, and engines and power train components. With multiple product lines and dozens of factories, Deere & Company is moving to R/3 to provide smooth-flowing information and consistent business processes throughout its vast organization.

In working with Deere & Company through several complex implementations, Siemens provided the coaching and on-the-job training that is making the company self-sufficient in delivering R/3 to other sites. As a result, Deere & Company is now using its new expertise to bring R/3 enterprise systems to facilities around the world.

"The R/3 software will enable us to streamline our processes, lower the cost of doing business with suppliers and grow profitably in a rapidly evolving global economy," said John Boten, manager, general company and marketing systems integration, Deere & Company. "Siemens is providing the consulting services, both in North America North America, third largest continent (1990 est. pop. 365,000,000), c.9,400,000 sq mi (24,346,000 sq km), the northern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere.  and worldwide, that will make the new information infrastructure a reality."

The Model Sites

Siemens helped Deere & Company deliver R/3 at three plants that would serve as models - new factories in North Carolina North Carolina, state in the SE United States. It is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean (E), South Carolina and Georgia (S), Tennessee (W), and Virginia (N). Facts and Figures

The partners also created interfaces to legacy distribution and payroll systems at the home office.

In defining business processes that can be replicated across the organization, the new systems provide benchmarks for future implementations. Deere & Company now has the expertise to tailor the models to fit requirements of individual sites, fill any gaps and define interface requirements to supplant and replace classical systems.
