Groupe Sagem Adds Connection Tool to ISDN Hardware Enabling Speeds Up to 512 Kbps; New Software Benefits Pre-Press Users on the Macintosh Computer.

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 6, 1998--Groupe Sagem, a high technology group and a leading supplier of ISDN ISDN
in full Integrated Services Digital Network

Digital telecommunications network that operates over standard copper telephone wires or other media.
and videoconferencing A real time video session between two or more users or between two or more locations. Although the first videoconferencing was done with traditional analog TV and satellites, inhouse room systems became popular in the early 1980s after Compression Labs pioneered digitized video systems  products for Macintosh and PC environments, today announced new connection tool software for its ISDN hardware, resulting in speeds of up to 512 Kbps.

The increased speed will especially benefit pre-press activities where a large graphics file needs to be sent to another location. A user may take advantage of the connection tool in conjunction with Sagem's Easy Transfer software package or another Apple Communications Toolbox-compatible application to enable the transfer of files from one site to another. It will also benefit users that wish to download large files from the Internet.

With the new connection tool, Macintosh users may combine as many as four Sagem Planet ISDN boards or up to 8 B channels on one dedicated computer, resulting in speeds of up to 512 Kbps. Channels are bound together via the standard Multilink PPP See PPP.  protocol. The speed of any Sagem hardware product may be combined -- the Sagem Planet ISDN GeoPort Adapter (S.P.I.G.A.), an ISDN GeoPort telecommunications adapter; NuBus and PCI (1) (Payment Card Industry) See PCI DSS.

versions of its Planet ISDN cards; and the Meet-Me Macintosh videoconferencing system.

Sagem's products allow bandwidth on demand. A user may need from 1B or 8B channels depending on a task. For example, a user sending a graphics file to another location my need to utilize seven B channels, while someone conducting a search on the Internet my only utilize three B channels.

"With this solution, Sagem is meeting the demands of its pre-press customers who have to quickly transfer large files within a tight deadline," said Marc Mathieu, executive vice president, Sagem. "The connection tool allows our customers to increase performance incrementally as needed as needed prn. See prn order.  by building on their existing hardware investment."

Sagem Planet ISDN products now deliver 128-512 Kbps speeds for the Macintosh, allowing users to be the fastest Internet surfers, transfer data at the highest speeds, consult video databases and communicate via videoconferencing.
