Olives, kiwi fruit, grain, and nursery stock are also grown, and cattle are raised.  to inform public agencies about requirements for submitting proposals under the Local Groundwater Assistance Fund, AB 303, Chapter 708 (Statutes of 2000).

Signed by Governor Gray Davis last September, AB 303 will fund groundwater studies and projects that contribute to basin and subbasin groundwater management objectives. Those objectives include monitoring, modeling, and other management activities.

"Grants provided from this fund will allow local agencies to improve management of water within their districts," said DWR Chief Hydrogeologist Carl Hauge. "The grants can be used to fund proposals for groundwater monitoring or management and groundwater studies."

The workshops are scheduled from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on the following days and dates:

      --  Friday, April 6 --   Fresno State Building

The Department of Water Resources operates and maintains the State Water Project, provides dam safety and flood control and inspection services, assists local water districts in water management and water conservation planning, and plans for future statewide water needs.
