Ground-based Spider web. (Digest).Textron Systems and ATK ATK - Andrew Toolkit have been busy with a joint venture aimed at developing a hand-emplaced, tactical munition system for the US Army--a key element that will feature strongly in the Army's Anti-Personnel Landmine Alternatives (APL-A APL-A Anti-Personnel Landmine - Alternatives ) initiative. The system, nicknamed the Spider, consists of a Munition Control Unit that comprises non-self destructing anti-personnel mines, and a Remote Control Unit that provides man-in-the-loop command and control of the munitions mu·ni·tion n. As a non-combatant-safe land mine, only a signal from the remote unit can trigger a muntion. The system is being developed under a $ 53.8 million contract from the US Army. |
