Yet Geneva Holliday (a pseudonym pseudonym (s `dənĭm) [Gr.,=false name], name assumed, particularly by writers, to conceal identity. A writer's pseudonym is also referred to as a nom de plume (pen name). for award-winning author Bernice McFadden) succeeds at capturing and sustaining her reader's attention. The four main characters, Geneva, Noah, Chevy and Crystal, demonstrate how true friends are willing to go to hell and back without wavering. Geneva represents single moms struggling to hold it all together while caring for everyone but themselves. Noah is an openly gay male who seems to have it all until he finds himself desiring the forbidden fruit--women. With absolutely no shame to her game, Chevy represents the gold digger whose materialistic tendencies could lead her to ruin. Crystal, upon introduction, appears to be the stable one of the crew until we find out that her boyfriend is living proof that everything that glitters ain't gold! The familiarity of the issues represented in this witty story may compel some to read it critically, while others may read it for escape.
