Merona Enterprises has acquired an eight-acre site that formerly housed Fountain Lumber lumber, term for timber that has been cut into boards for use as a building material. The major steps in producing lumber involve logging (the felling and preparation of timber for shipment to sawmills), sawing the logs into boards, grading the boards according to  Sales in the Florence area of Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. , said Mark Tarlov, a vice president at Merona.

Tarlov said negotiations are underway with a supermarket chain to take 50,000 square feet in the center. Tarlov estimated the project's value at more than $10 million.

It's a prime example of building in an under-served area, Tarlov said. About 44,000 people live within a mile of the site and there are only a couple of large grocery stores.

Fountain Lumber Sales sold the property and was represented by Mike Smith of Lee & Associates.
